Everyone marketing online know that to increase web traffic to your site is a vital part of your business.

Because without web traffic, you are not going to make any sales. But…

To Increase Web Traffic You Must First Know the Basics

Now that you have started your website or ecommerce store and posted content that is related to the topic, it’s now time to take a good look at website traffic and to increase web traffic.

What’s the use of a website if there are no visitors and readers, right? Now, before you get too excited and jump ahead to advanced techniques to increase web traffic, you need first to know the basics behind website traffic.

This way, your efforts to increase web traffic can be used to the fullest.

Provide value on your website will increase web traffic:

One of the way to increase web traffic to your site is to provide value on your site.

To make your website more valuable you want to increase the hits of the website, increase the number of pages visitor views, increase how long a visitor stays on your page, and also increase the number of unique visitors. For most owners out there, they thought that page views is equal to unique visitors which is totally wrong.

Let me explain, page views happen when the visitor comes your website and if he do return to your site again, it is consider as another page view. But that’s not the goal of your website. You want to increase the number of unique web visitors and return visitors.

You can do this by putting related and informative content on your website for the niche your are targeting.

For example, let’s say you had a website on how to quit smoking. To increase your unique visitor count and the duration of the visitors stay on your page you would want to add content like videos, audio, and articles that share with people on how to make quit smoking.

By giving the targeted content that people are searching for those visitors will spend more time on your site and tell others about your site – which would start to increase web traffic. But, if you were to put unrelated content on your page like how to speak Spanish, your visitors will leave your site immediately.

Therefore to recap, an unique visitor comes to your site and stays for a while to look at what you have to offer. A page view is when someone comes to your site spends less than a minute and then leaves. This is also known as a bounce.

Have you ever heard the term “Hits”?

Snowy Ride HomeHits has the same meaning as a page view. The number of hits is not a good measure of the quality of traffic and as a basis to say that there is a need to increase website traffic. Rising hits is a not a good benchmark for quality traffic and not a way to increase website traffic. To increase website traffic, you need to focus on unique visitors, return visitors, and the length or user sessions.

To find out this how many unique visitors, page views, return visitors and how long visitors are staying on your site you will need to install a tracking software. There are many tracking softwares out there, nbsp; but I would recommend to use a powerful and free tool called a Google Analytics

How Tracking Can Help Increase Web Traffic

Once you have insert the tracking code on your site… Google Analytics will start to monitor all of the traffic that comes to your site. It will list what pages they visit on your site, how long they are staying on certain pages, and where your traffic is coming from. This is extremely important information for when you want to increase website traffic.

Here are just 3 ways tracking can increase web traffic:

1. When looking to increase website traffic you’d refer to your Google Analytics reports to see where your website is lacking. If you bounce rate or page views is much higher than your unique visitor and returning visitor counts then you know that you need to put more related and valuable content on your website.

2. When you look at how long visitors stay on a certain page then you know the type of content visitors you are looking for. Add more of that content to your website and you’ll give visitors more of a reason to stay on your site or return to your site – which will increase website traffic.

3. Finally, look at where your traffic is coming from. If it’s the google natural search engines, start sharing articles on your topic on different article and video sites so that you can get more google listings. If your traffic is coming from a forum, then you should post more in that forum, or pay for an advertisement on that site so that you can attract more visitors from that site and increase website traffic.
