5 Mistakes Make By People Making Money Online

To be successful online, not only can we learn from what people is doing right but we can also learn from the mistakes of people. In this post, I am going to share with you 5 common mistakes make by ordinary people who are making money online so that you do not make the same mistakes.

Here are the 5 common mistakes.

1) Not driving enough traffic – As I mention that making money online, you need to have a product that people want and then drive traffic to that product. But what most people does is that they spend so much time creating the product but too little time on driving traffic to their site.

Then after some time, they conclude that their products are not making any sales and then they give up with their product and then move on to create any product. But what was the mistake is that they didn’t put in consistent effort in generating traffic to the site to generate sales.

In fact you should spend 60% or more of your time marketing your site instead of other activities.

2) Doing a few projects at the same time – This is another common mistakes make by marketers. They have too many ideas in your head and that is the reason they tend to implement to many projects at the same time and in the end got nothing completed or taking them too long to complete a project and start generating traffic.

To avoid this mistake, you should carry a notepad or a voice recorder with you so each time you have a fresh idea, just jot it down into your notepad and move on with your current project. When you complete that project, then you take out the notebook and see what other ideas you can implement.

This is to help you to stay focus and not forget the great ideas that you have.

3) Perfectionists – This mistake are usually made by people who are perfectionist. They are so particular about having the best product and end of keeping modifying the product and the end didn’t get anything launched.

Nothing is perfect in this world, even the best product that created by the marketing gurus are not perfect. The main thing is not to get it perfect, but get it launched and you modify it along the way. You see if Bill Gates will still their window program is perfect, he will not be billionaires today.

4) Focus on non money generating activities – I seldom hear people talk about this. As a business owner, your time should focus on planning how you can expand your business and not on those mandate activities.

For the start, if you do not have the budget, you may be doing all those activities yourself but once you have enough money, it is time that you outsource these task to people so that you can maximize the time that you have.

Everyone has only 24 hrs so you have to leverage the effort of others in order to bring your business to the next level.

You can hire people from sites like elance.com or getafreelancer.com to outsource your work to other people.

5) Read Email Syndrome – I must admit that sometimes I make this mistake too. In the morning, I open up my email, and unknowingly I have been checking emails and surfing around for the past 2 hours.

That is a lot of time wasted that could spend on your business. That is why I always encourage people to work on a computer without a internet access and have your day planned so that you know what you need to do each day and will not lose focus.

Conclusion
Above are the 5 mistakes that I personally made and I hope you don’t make the mistakes Iike I do and I wish you all the best for your business!

You are 100% correct with these 5 mistakes.

I have been making them all for 4 years and as a result lose between $5 and $10,000 a year - every year.

The trouble with emails is that working on a computer with no internet access means that you end up with 500 emails to look at which takes a couple of days, not hours.

I work 14 hour days and 10 of this 14 hours is taken up with emails.

I also have about 10 e-Books half written and 25 or so niche sites half finished.

Generating traffic is impossible and a marketers’ hype. You can’t generate traffic. If you’re lucky, it finds you and you make sales. I’m not lucky. LOL

Unfortunately, none of these things can be changes, so we are stuck with them.

All you said was very true, though.

    Hi John,

    Thanks for the post.

Yes, I’ve also fallen victim to many of those five common mistakes!

I think the mistake I commit most often, is to spend too much time with email. I often end up clicking on links in marketing emails, and wasting valuable time reading about products that people are selling.

    All the best,
    Laurie

I agree 100% with four of the points that you make, but I do not agree with your view on perfectionism.

My experience as a newbie is that the internet marketing world is filled with garbage that unscrupulous marketers hastily put together to sell to dupes like me. I buy the product thinking it is going to help me in my internet marketing efforts, just to find that it is worthless rubbish.

I feel that just the opposite should be true. If I sell a product, the person buying the product expect value for money. I must therefor ensure that the product is as good as I can make it.

    Hi,

Clive, I hope you don’t get too negative, I am sure there is a way out. I would suggest that you can hire an support staff that will clear the email for you.

As I can see that most of the comments has the reading email problem like I do so I really hope we can overcome this and spend more time on our task.

Deon - I guess you have some misunderstanding with my point about perfectionism. I don’t mean about creating lousy and crap product.

What I mean was that there is no perfect product but get the best you have out there and then make it even better along the way is what I meant.

Great article and very nice blog.
It’s true that ideas start coming once you try focusing on one project.
This is true about me. I’d started one project and now am running 5 others at the same time and the first one is not finished yet.

    Hi John,

Must have missed your reply, somehow.

Hiring support staff is not exactly financially viable at the moment.

I’ve not yet made $5 in sales, this year.

Nice idea for the Mike Filsames of this world, though. LOL
